Anki Sjolund is a native of Sweden and came to Los Angeles in 1987. Her formal education and upbringing in Sweden allows her to bring a different perspective to how she serves children and their families. She continued her studies in Los Angeles and is today a Board Certified Behavior Analyst who received her Master’s degree in counseling with a specialization in Applied Behavior Analysis from California State University, Los Angeles. She got her start in the field of autism during her undergraduate years at UCLA where she studied with Dr. Ivar Lovaas and worked at UCLA Neuropsychiatric hospital in the in-patient and out-patient programs for young children diagnosed with pervasive developmental disorders and psychiatric disorders. Ms. Sjolund has dedicated her career to finding more effective ways of serving families where either the child’s disability or behaviors severely affect how the family manages their day-to-day lives. In fact, the motivational force behind starting Behavioral Building Blocks in 2004 was her steadfast determination to improve on how services were delivered to families and make sure that quality services were provided within a framework of care and dedication. Ms. Sjolund serves families in the Los Angeles area as well as Detroit and Sweden. She continuously seeks new information from various fields to improve and expand services to families. For example, Ms Sjolund is certified in Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) and she continuously studies the connection between brain function and behaviors to utilize multiple perspectives in her interventions.
